I think I unconsciously made a New Year's resolution.

~ The New Year's Eve party didn't turn out half bad. We all had a good time, I suppose. People brought so much drink that it's enough for ten more parties (of moderate drinking) and Ntina brought so much food that I was eating the leftovers for three days afterwards.~ I ordered a new (kickass) PC but there's been a big delay in delivery (probably due to the holidays), which has given me time to reconsider, so now I'm thinking of cancelling it altogether and keeping the money in the bank, seeing that I currently do not have a job and being glued to the new computer (which is what most certainly will happen) won't make it easier to find a new one.~ Yesterday I went to Alley Cat with my friends. One of the two DJs -the girl, Maria, who is an acquaintance of Ntina's and seems nice- played very well, and most of the songs we liked and sang like crazy (we didn't dance though, because it was so crowded you could barely move and we didn't want to lose our spots on the nice, comfortable sofa). The second DJ -the guy- must have been either on drugs or hearing impaired (or both). Leaving aside that he mostly played shitty music, he kept playing one song over the other thinking he was mixing them, when what he actually did was create noise (and not in a good way, either) during the ten seconds it took him to change from one song to another. He also did this extremely outdated (and never really relevant to the genre he was playing) thing where he introduced the next track by letting us listen a bit from it somewhere in the middle of the previous one. Really, dude. If you don't know how to use your equipment, if you don't have an ear for rythm and/or melody, stick to the basics. Please. In spite of all that, the place was packed and remained so until the time we left, around 4am. By the time we got something to eat and I was dropped off home an hour had passed, so I ended up going to bed at 5:30am. The result was that I woke up at 1:30pm tired and sleepy and I slept for two or three more hours in the evening. After talking with my friends on the phone later, we came to the conclusion that we have got really really old. I mean, compared to the times when we used to party all night and then go home, change, attend an early History Didactics class at the university, and then meet our friends for coffee, backgammon and walks through Rhodes' Old Town, we seem pretty un-energetic nowadays. Ntina got depressed when I pointed out the difference between now and our 18-year-old selves and failed to congratulate me for resolving to re-descover that old self, if not by becoming a crazy party girl -which would be tacky at 26-, at least by trying to be more alive and not let my self get dragged down by the blandness of adult life, routine, and the objections of my body, which she should have done (congratulate me, that is). It's 5am now and I have lots of things to do in the morning. It's going to be a tough test for the endurance of my new decision.
